There are many fun details to hunt for such as the goose with the tiny top hat, the crowned swans and little Corgis running in the snow. I’m making Madagascar Vanilla today. 🌻. One with actual Bourbon and the other with Vodka. The flasks are large so I thought I would test it out and then next week make several 8.5 oz. in either to gift for Christmas. It’s so easy to split the vanilla bean and add to your choice of liqueur. It has to age for at least 4 weeks before it’s ready. Are you on my Christmas list ? heh heh Ho Ho Ho🎄 🎅🏻
Easy recipe:
Use a nice smooth, aged Bourbon or good Vodka. Soap and scald you’re bottles and dry thoroughly.
Pour in your choice of liquor, slit the vanilla beans length wise, and open a bit. Don’t scrape out seeds, but leave in place. Depending on the size of bottle you have chosen, use one bean cut in half for 4.5oz. Or two to three beans for larger bottles. Tighten cap and let age for at least 4 weeks or more. Shake everyday to encourage distribution of flavor. Enjoy in all of your baked goods and put a label on and gift 🎁 to loved ones who love to bake with the best ingredients 🎄🎅🏻
I love fall and what better way to welcome the season than decorating my front porch. I think sometimes we remodeled and expanded the porch and installed the pretty front door just so that I could decorate for the seasons ahead. We grew our own pumpkins this year and I have to say it was so rewarding ! The pumpkins we purchased last year were expensive so when it came time I put them in our side garden over the winter and come late spring this year they had deflated and started to sprout. The Cinderella pumpkins in the aqua green, maybe called Ghost Pumpkins are my favorite. I have two bright orange which we placed on the haybales facing out to the main street and should be able to harvest a few more of those and some whites in a few more days. I hope you enjoy it and feel inspired.
I have just loved creating these watercolor Christmas cards. Just the sound of Fa la la makes me happy and what better way to convey your Christmas spirit than that little saying. The anthropomorphic couple, ( meaning that the animals have human characteristics :), are all dressed up for a holiday party or just to say to you Fa la la Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The pretty rabbit girl is even toasting you with a little bubbly and sparkling champagne.
I've created envelope liners to dress them up even further. I usually create the design to fit the liner and it's not easy. I like to use a text weight shimmering paper to print them on and then, surprise!, I hand cut them and make sure that the top point is rounded just so. I know ! I'm a dinosaur ! I do prefer to develop, print and cut my designs here in my studio. I rarely use an outsource printer. Most of my competitors are faster and they use them, but for me I like my hand on each and every item. Do I seem slow....yes....but I try to make it worth the wait in detailed and lovely finish work that no outsource printer or someone who sells invitations for $1.00 could ever produce. Sure they could do them for nothing but I do prefer to make my living this way. I have clients who have ordered Christmas cards from me every year for ten years. Isn't that the nicest compliment !
I hope everyone loves my deer and rabbit couple as much as I do. Again, it's those fine details that make me swoon. So much so the first printing usually goes home with me from the studio that first evening so I can google and gaggle over it. Yes, I prop it on my nightstand and while I might be watching American Horror Story I look over at my little card and swoon all over again. Am I crazy, yes,.....but a good crazy, in love with what I can accomplish sitting in my little studio as the hours and days pass by, happy as a loon!
